Agonda Beach

Location: 37 kilometers from Margao, South Goa
Highlights: Cabo De Rama fort which is now in ruins
How to Reach: Agonda beach is slightly difficult to reach since it is a bit cut off from the main land. One can reach Agonda beach by hiring scooter or a cab. Buses don't ply.

Situated at the south of Goa, some 37 kilometers from Margao is the Agonda beach. Secluded and a bit cut off from the mainland, the Agonda beach of Goa is the place to be if you want to be just with yourself and the never ending sea in front of you. The Agonda beach of India is dotted with palm trees on golden brown sands and the shores are softly washed by the gentle waves of the sea. The south of the beach has a large hill which looks beautiful and dramatic. Though the beach is not frequented much by tourists, it is the ideal getaway if you are looking for peace and silence.

Since the Agonda beach of Goa is a bit secluded from the mainland, there are not many facilities that are provided here and one should take necessary things along if visiting this beach. It is not advisable to swim too far away on this beach because there are no lifeguards and the current is strong here. You will not find any souvenir shops, flea markets, restaurants, etc here. The beach is approximately 3 kilometers long and is a long stretch of peace, silence and tranquility. There are no resorts near the beach. Still if you want to stay here, you may put up a tent, though at your own risk.

The beach is an ideal getaway if you are looking for a secluded spot in an otherwise crowded Goa. The swaying coconut trees, untouched golden sands, long uninterrupted stretch of land and blue sea all make the Agonda beach the perfect spot to come for a picnic with your friends and family. The fort of Cabo De Rama forms a dramatic background of the beach and gives it an air of mystic romance. It is said that Lord Rama (incarnation of Lord Vishnu) came here to stay with his wife Sita during his 14 year long exile. You can always hire a taxi or an auto rickshaw to reach Agonda beach from any nearby city in south Goa. So for a magical trip and an unparalleled experience, visit the Agonda beach.
